If you live in California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law, you can opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. This page is how you do it.
What we actually do
WattBackup does not sell your personal information for money. We have no arrangement with any data broker and we never have.
However, under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, and under comparable laws in other states, allowing an advertising network to use identifiers to personalise advertising can count as “sharing” even when no money changes hands. So we treat it as such and give you a way out.
Note also that no advertising is currently being served on this site. The mechanism below is in place ahead of that.
Opt out
1. Use the consent controls
The quickest route is to refuse the Marketing category in our consent panel, which stops personalised advertising identifiers on this site:
2. Send a Global Privacy Control signal
We honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser or a browser extension sends it, we treat it as a valid opt-out request automatically and you need do nothing else. You can find supporting browsers and extensions at globalprivacycontrol.org.
3. Opt out with Google directly
Personalised advertising can also be switched off at the source, at adssettings.google.com, and across participating vendors at optout.aboutads.info.
4. Ask us in writing
Email melgarmerencianoalvaro@gmail.com with the subject line Do Not Sell or Share. We will confirm within 15 business days. We do not require you to create an account to make a request, and we will not discriminate against you for making one.
Your other state rights
Depending on your state you may also have the right to know what we collect, to obtain a copy, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, and to appeal a refusal. Use the same email address and we will handle it under the privacy policy.
Authorised agents
An authorised agent may submit a request on your behalf with written proof of authorisation. We may still ask you to verify your own identity directly.
