This site is read by people in the middle of a power outage, often on a phone, often in the dark, sometimes on a bad connection. Accessibility is not a formality here; it is the normal operating condition of our audience.
What we aim for
WattBackup targets conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.
What is in place
- Contrast. Every text and background pairing in the site design was checked against WCAG contrast ratios before it was used. Body text sits at 18.2:1, well above the 4.5:1 required for Level AA, and no interactive element falls below Level AA.
- Text size. Body text is 18px with generous line spacing, and the layout reflows without loss of content when text is enlarged to 200%.
- Keyboard. Every interactive element is reachable by keyboard, focus is always visible, and a skip link is the first item in the tab order.
- Structure. Pages use a single H1 and a correct heading hierarchy, so a screen reader can navigate by headings.
- Data tables. Tables use real header cells rather than styled text, so a screen reader announces which column a value belongs to. Wide tables scroll inside their own container instead of forcing the page sideways.
- Images. Informative images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative ones are hidden from assistive technology.
- Motion. There are no carousels, sliders, autoplaying video or scroll-driven animations anywhere on this site.
Known limitations
We would rather list these than claim they do not exist:
- Advertising. Once display advertising is enabled, advertisement content comes from a third-party network and we cannot control its accessibility. We reserve fixed space for each advertisement so it cannot push content around as it loads.
- Third-party embeds. The consent banner and the contact form are provided by third-party plugins. We test them, but we do not control their markup.
- No formal audit. This site has not been audited by an independent accessibility specialist. The statement above reflects our own testing.
Tell us when we fail
